• Developed an ASP.NET / C# application to parse Office XP Excel spreadsheets (as XML using XPath queries) and extract the data into an Oracle database. Files were acquired across the web from a third party data supplier, which required tunnelling through the corporate firewall, to an SSL protected internet web site, and logging onto remote network.
• Developed a Windows Forms / C# utility to automate execution of web pages by scheduling an HTTP Get.
• Designed and developed (in ASP.NET / C# / Oracle) a Problem and Feedback reporting system to be integrated into the corporate intranet. • Initially worked on a number of incomplete projects to extend, enhance and finalise the code. The projects were multi-threaded and consisted of a vb.net client application, a web service, and an administration application. The client ran as a taskbar add-in which monitored the printers attached to the client machine and transmitted this information to a SQL Server database via Soap using a vb.net Web Service. Authorised printer profiles were down-loaded from the database at regular intervals via the web service. The Administration tool provided the means to maintain a list of authorised printers on a user and profile basis. In the preparation of this project the technologies used were: vb.net, C#, XML, WMI, SQL Server, Multi threaded code, Web Services, Access.
• Designed and constructed a human resources vb.net / SQL Server application allowing the maintenance of Assessments, Competencies, general Personnel data, and data maintenance. This was built as an outlook style vb.net application, and used a variety of custom controls (some of which made use of both visual form and control inheritance to extend existing .net functionality). Also examined the possibility of using asp.net to build the application. Technologies used: vb.net, C#, visual form inheritance, sub-classing.net controls, SQL Server 2000, ado.net, asp.net.

Also technical development work in PLI to build an in-core CICS look-aside buffer for frequently accessed DB2 data. Use of REXX to convert PLI source code into CSP.
• Technical consultant on aspects of CSP and CICS programming. Consultant on CUA compliance of the CSP applications. Designer of sample and common CUA compliant code.

• Used OS2 2.1 development platform with CSP/2 and the SQL database DB2/2 to convert mainframe ADABAS/NATURAL systems into SQL applications using CSP and DB2. Wrote routines to emulate facilities found in NATURAL including date routines and message handing. Wrote utilities in OS2/REXX for automatic conversion of NATURAL source code into CSP.

• Programmer on the security system used to manage the access of Reuters clients to Reuters news. The system was written in SQL/DB2 CICS/COBOL BMS and was being upgraded to allow it to run in the United States and Canada. This required the amending of all COBOL code to deal with dates in multiple formats, and expansion of the primary keys in the DB2 database. Also wrote REXX programs to emulate the functionality found in SDF in order to make BMS map maintenance easier.

• Design and produce a training course for Version 4 of CSP to cover application Design and Application Development. Course to be run over four days for System Analysts and Analyst Programmers. Written in Microsoft Word for Windows and graphics designed for COREL! Draw.
• Teacher to provide in-depth training on the use of CSP to the staff of the Public Authority of Applied Training and Education in Kuwait. Designed course material on site and responsible for teaching. Formulation of standards for programming in CSP and sample solutions to programming and design considerations in CSP.
• Programmer on a Client Server system linking a PC with an IBM ES/9000 over an X25 packet switching network. Responsible for the initial programming in Turbo C and CICS COBOL to prove the link would work. Also wrote some programs in VS COBOL II for the transfer of data into the new system.
• Created OS/2 applications in REXX to enable DBA's to schedule execution of PKZIP, PKUNZIP and SYBASE queries for Client Server project using PC/FOCUS and CICS. Some SQL experience in SYBASE.
• System Administrator for General MVS software, including CICS, RACF, ISPF and some DBA work with DB2. Designer of CICS PL/I Error handling and ISPF configuration management software in ISPF and REXX. Technical Liaison between F.M. supplier and client, dealing with day to day problems and planning for the implementation of new/upgraded software. • Analyst Programmer on a Management Information System using CSP and DB2. Interfaced to the GDDM-ICU for Graphics from CSP. Used CICS Spooling (from PL/I) and native HP PCL/5 data streams to produce graphical charts on a Local HP Laser Printer. Also Analyst Programmer on a CUA compliant CSP Mortgage Quotation system using asynchronous CICS tasks (in PL/I) for major DB2 updates.
• Design of a mainframe Client Server communications manager. This executed in CICS and received service requests from EASEL applications running under OS2. Each request invoked a CSP written Server to process any input and produce any required results. OS2 I/O used LU2 protocols with type conversion of binary data to a form compatible with 3270 terminals.
• Technical Support for CSP, Script/DCF and REXX. Day to day problem analysis within CSP environments for systems development and systems programming area. Formulation of CSP & REXX standards including information for programmers and designers on CSP and how CUA conforming systems may be written, design considerations to be aware of when using DB2 and DB2/CICS dynamic plan selection, and documentation of existing in-house routines.
• Development of ISPF automated procedures for production migrating of CSP objects.
• Developed a CSP interface to ENDEVOR. Exported CSP/ESF source would be validated and prepared, added to ENDEVOR, and automatically deleted from the developers MSL.
• Development of a CSP, CUA compliant, generic Help Management System.
• Construction of a ISPF/REXX developers workbench for CSP. • Development of Edit macro driven compilation procedures. These automatically determined what steps were required to prepare a program for execution i.e. MACRO process, DB2 pre-process, CICS translate, etc., from actual program source statements.

• Member of a three-man technical support team working on the Computerisation of the NHS central register of patients. RACF security administrator in addition to maintaining CICS tables and JCL.. Performed DB2 DBA tasks in conjunction with the Configuration Management function. Provided help and technical input to programmers and designers on CICS, CSP, COBOL, ISPF, CLISTS and JCL and DB2.
• Responsible for managing Change control procedures for COBOL, CSP and ISPF components of the system. Wrote ISPF dialogues to automate the process.
• Designed and programmed software to produce screen "dump" reports by deciphering 3270 data streams as an audit trail for system security personnel - by emulating the logic of the terminal in executing 3270 data streams on their own internal screen "buffer". • Construction of Client Server communications software using IRMA between IBM PCs and an MVS/XA mainframe. Software was written in Microsoft BASIC using native IRMA calls.
• Construction of a Client Server MVS/XA to Airline Control Program mainframe link using IBM PCs as a message bridge. PCs installed with IRMA and Lanyon boards - interrogated by MS BASIC programs - accepted requests from CICS terminals and routed them to ACP terminals. Software written in MS BASIC on the PCs and CICS PL/I on the mainframe.
• Initially programmer on a project to evaluate the use of new tools and techniques on large development projects. With data held in DB2, this project was the pilot of a flight scheduling system using GDDM on graphic terminals & plotters to display and print aircraft status information. IMS/ADF II was used for data entry but was later replaced by CSP when the former was shown to be impractical. Technical support within development for DB2, CICS, TSO, ISPF & PL/I, and liaison between Systems & Development. Also designer for technical aspects of TSO and CICS application systems. Development of new programming aids.

• Junior programmer on a Warehouse/Distribution management system using Command level COBOL and Macro level PL/I under CICS. Also Batch PL/I and COBOL programs and automated operations job submission facilities using the ROSCOE RPF language. Later became sole support for project after system implementation.
